I check the messsage board just about everyday when I get home and I noticed some people complaining about the "owner turned in" issue. Now that it has been brought to my attention, I am absolutly in shock. There are several more since the messages started. It makes me wonder why it has gotten so bad here lately or has it always been this way and we haven't noticed before. What can be done to stop this issue or is it better for the animal's welfare that the owner who doesn't want them anymore to turn them in, giving them a chance to find a loving and caring home. This is terrible and if I could I'd save them all. |

It's sad to hear when an owner drops off their pet at the shelter. At least they care enough, however, to drop them at a safe place. I've heard about too many stories where people leave their pets to starve and die. I would rather hear that they dropped them off than to hear of the humane officer or other rescue agency finding a pet who has been malnourished or mistreated.
Thank goodness for the shelters and rescue agencies who make sure that our furry family members are safe and sound.

I know what all of you guys mean about owner turn in it is so sad and you know the animals must be upset after being with some one for 10 yrs or even just 1 year. I have moved alot but any where I moved to must allow pets some people just do not take the time to look for that they just find some thing they like and go for then they give up their pets. But in my life it is my kids and then my pets If some place can not accept my pets then I do not need to be there. |

FOUND DOG @ the old DuPont Junior High School on Saturday May 3 around 6pm.
Long grey haired lap dog (schnauzer/terrier mix???)
I can email a picture.
She is wearing 2 collars: 1 white flea collar & 1 turquoise collar.
She's very young, was very scared and hiding partially in a hole in the ground and couldn't get out.
We called the Humane Society who came and removed her from the hole.
Their observation was the dog is in heat. They took her to the Animal Shelter and she'll be there for 5 days until somebody claims her.
If you could cut and paste this info into an email and send to anyone you know who lives in DuPont City or Rand, I'd appreciate it.

I agree with you Dawn.I cannot understand why so many people turn their pets in especially these pets that are like eight and ten years old.I cannot imagine dropping my pet off and walking away. The only excuse for dropping off a pet is owner passes away or has to go to a nursing home. |

I have to agree with Dawn, it's sad because alot of these animals have been with the family for years, do you not think they grieve for the owners, and when people get rid of them because they have a new baby, or are moving to a place that doesn't allows pet ( don't move there) ! shame on you, pets are family too, you never needed them in the first place |

Again I have to say that I am appalled that alot of these animals are "owner turned in". What kind of person just leaves their pet at the pound? |
